Building a More Peaceful World, One Child at a Time

Maria Montessori believed education could be the path to lasting peace. Nominated three times for the Nobel Peace Prize, she saw children as the key to a more just and compassionate world. At Casa di Mir, peace education is at the heart of who we are.

Speaking and Listening With Compassion

To bring that vision to life, we draw on Nonviolent Communication, developed by psychologist Marshall Rosenberg. This approach teaches children to express themselves honestly while listening with empathy. Students learn to notice what happened, name how they feel, identify what they need, and make a clear request, turning conflict into connection.

From our youngest learners to our middle schoolers, children practice these skills every day. When disagreements arise, they're guided to work through them with words, not blame, and to find solutions that work for everyone. Over time, these tools become second nature.

Peace in Everything We Do

Peace education doesn't live in a single lesson. It shapes how our classrooms feel, how our students treat one another, and how they see the world. It connects to our Cultural Study, where children learn to appreciate the diversity of human experience; to Model UN, where middle schoolers practice diplomacy on a global stage; and to our care for the earth and our community.

The result is children who can handle conflict with courage and kindness, understand their own feelings and the feelings of others, and carry those skills into their families, friendships, and futures. At Casa di Mir, we're not just teaching peace. We're raising peacemakers.
