Our History

The vision of Casa di Mir began in 1988 with a group of Casa Maria Montessori Preschool parents who wanted to continue their childrenโ€™s Montessori education through the elementary years. Their dream included a school with a strong sense of community and a nurturing environment where children would develop their intellect, character, and compassion. They sought to create a school that embraced diversity with enthusiasm and inspired students to become confident, life-long learners who would lead responsible, caring lives.

The founders chose the name Casa di Mir for the newly created school. โ€œCasaโ€, meaning โ€œhouseโ€, is a traditional Montessori school name that is taken from Maria Montessoriโ€™s โ€œCasa dei Bambiniโ€, meaning โ€œhouse of children.โ€ โ€œdiโ€, is the Italian word for โ€œof.โ€ The name โ€œMirโ€ was chosen because it is a Russian word for peace, as well as the root for the word โ€œmiracleโ€.

Casa di Mir Montessori Elementary School was officially incorporated in 1990 as a non-profit organization with a Board of Directors made up of parents and community members. As enrollment continued to grow, the school relocated several times in order to accommodate the expanding student growth, finally settling on the Cambrianna campus.
