A World of Learning: Our Cultural Study

Maria Montessori believed children should understand their place in the whole human family. At Casa di Mir, that vision comes to life every year through our school-wide Cultural Study.

One Continent, One Year, the Whole School

Each year, our entire community, from preschool through 8th grade, journeys together through a different continent. Children explore its geography, history, people, languages, and traditions, with each age group going as deep as they're ready to go. Over their years at Casa, students circle the globe, building a rich, connected understanding of the world and the people in it.

Learning You Can See and Hear

The continent comes alive across campus. In art, students explore the materials, techniques and traditions of the region, from clay and textiles to painting and printmaking. In music, they discover its instruments, rhythms, and songs. In the classroom, projects, research and stories bring these cultures into daily work. Throughout the year, we enrich this study by inviting guest artists into our community, including dancers, professional musicians, and other culture bearers who share their traditions firsthand. Learning isn't confined to a textbook; children experience it with their hands, voices, and imaginations.

A Community That Reflects the World

Our families bring languages, traditions, and stories from around the globe, and they're woven into our learning. Children grow up seeing difference as something to be curious about and celebrated, and they learn early that respect and understanding begin with genuine interest in one another.

Cultural Night: The Celebration of the Year

Each year culminates in Cultural Night, one of Casa di Mir's most beloved traditions. Students share everything they've learned through food, drama, dance, music, and art, transforming our campus into a vibrant celebration of the continent they've studied. It's joyful, a little bit magical, and a beautiful picture of what our children have become: curious, confident, and connected to the world.
